Killer Dialogues of Bollywood-I

Written By Preeti Singh, Bollywood Story

  • Kanoon ko Haath me mat liya karo

Kanoon ko haath me mat lo” –wonder if any Hero got the chance to catch hold of  kanoon ever? Despite all bad the villain had done to him, he would leave him to be taken care by the police...Why? Simple,  he knew that "Kanoon ke haath bohot lambe hote hain"...lol :)

Yes, our very own bollywood and its ceaseless dialogue saga. Gabbar, Lion or Vishwanath, we recall them for their immortal speeches. Those that made these characters and sometimes even the respective films.

Here we unfold, the most exciting and ecstatic journey of killer Bollywood dialogues that have not only entertained us over the years but also found space in our everyday lives. Keep a check reader, the last might be Kitne dialogue the?

  • Do not miss out on our second in the series “ Killer Dialogues of Bollywood part-II ” (Inevitably growing length of the article lead us split it into two)

  • Dilip Kumar, Vyajanti mala in Devdas  “ Kaun Kambakht bardaasht karne ko peeta hai…” derived from the original Devdas (1955, based on a novel), delivered by Dilip Kumar, this sure does not fade away even after being re-used by Bhansali in his version of Devdas. Shahrukh wasn’t bad either, but Dilip Saab you win the tug-of-war.

(Dialogue by Rajinder Singh Bedi and Bimal Roy)

  • " Agar aisa na hua to Salim tujhe marne nahin dega aur hum
    Anarkali tujhe jeene nahin denge

  • Ye qaneez Jalaluddin Mohd Akbar ko apna khoon maaf karti hai

The Dialogues of Mughal-e-Azam {1960} convey love and power to their extremes. Both Prithvi Raj Kapoor and Madhubala articulated their best ever in the flick…

(Dialogues by Amanullah Khan, Kamal Amrohi, Wajahat Mirza, Ehsan Rizvi, Filmfare Best Dialogue Award Winner)

  • "Jinke ghar sheeshe ke hote hain, Wo doosron ke ghar pathhar nahin pheka Karte”. My! This surely means something!!! Another Raj Kumar rendition from the film Waqt {1965}, this dialogue is one of my personal favorites.63 Meaning? Do you want it? ( Dialogue by Akhtar-ul-Iman, Filmfare Best Dialogue Award Winner )

  • “Ye bachchon ke khelne ki cheez nahin, haath kat jae to khoon nikal ata hai…” Another immortal from Waqt {1965}, Raj Kumar here, sure reminds us to be careful.

(Dialogue by Akhtar-ul-Iman, Filmfare Best Dialogue Award Winner)

  • Pushpa I hate tears” by none other than Rajesh Khanna himself from the film Amar Prem {1972}. When he cried  at the end, it was certainly that moment of  "Amar Prem".
(Dialogue by Ramesh Pant, Filmfare Best Dialogue winner)

  • Apke paanv dekhe...Inhe zameen pe mat utariyega, maile ho Jaenge”  is nothing but glorifying what is considered the over-looked part of the Body, the feet. Raj Kumar has certainly immortalized the beauty of Meena Kumari’s through his exceptional dialogue delivery in Pakeezah {1972}.
     (Dialogue by Kamaal Amrohi)

  • " Arey o baabu Moshoy hum to rangmanch ki kathputliyan hain jiski dor us upar wale ke haathon main hai ", the evergreen Rajesh Khanna from the movie ANAND. Anand may not have got enough time to grab Anand in his life, but certainly tought us how to.

(Dialogue by Gulzaar, won him the 1972 Filmfare)

  • Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra" Did you know this Prem Chopra favorite line is originally from Bobby {1973} ? He used it in almost every film of his. Wonder, the writers had no bad names left for him. (Dialogue by K.A. Abbas)

  • "Ye police station hai tumhare baap ka ghar nahi
The angry young man (Amitabh Bachchan) in Zanjeer {1973} Blows up.
    (Dialogue by Javed Akhtar)

  • Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan in Deewar Bhai aj mere paas gaadi hai bangla hai, tumhare pas kya hai?. ..Mere pas maa hai” The Timeless dialogue, from The 1975 Deewar, between siblings Amitabh Bachchan and  Shashi Kapoor forms part of jokes and advertisements, every now and then.
(Dialogue by Salim-Javed, Filmfare Best Dialogue Winner)

  • "Aj Khush to bohot hoge tum” by Amitabh Bachchan from Deewar
{1975} is nothing but Vijay’s accusation of God being a Sadist.

(Dialogue by Salim-Javed, Filmfare Best Dialogue Winner)

  •  “Are O sambha, Kitne Aadmi the...Ab tera Kya Hoga kalia” …Yes, none other than SHOLAY {1975}, the dialogue mine of bollywood has tons of these to offer. From:

  • India Bobbles Daku Sambhar Singh Bobble head

  • Saara sheher mujhe lion ke naam se janta hai”.This may have been Ajeet’s voice over of the antagonist back then in Kali Charan {1976} but sure has now become fun and funny, Have you not heard the Ajit Lion Jokes?
    (Dialogue  by  Javed Akhtar)

  • "Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin Namumkin hai” ,with one remake and a sequel of the same coming in…It certainly seems impossible to get hold of Don now ;)
    (Don-1978, Dialogue by Salim-Javed)

  • "Jali ko aag kehte hain...” Vishwananth {1978}(Shatrughn Sinha) could not have a better cult dialogue to his name. Who does not know that? You? Khaamooooosssssh!!!
